Join local natural dyer and fine artist Elana Bloom for a special dye class for youth ages 9-13. Adults are welcome to join their kiddos or drop them off for this opportunity to work with two dyes made from pomegranates grown at Tucson Botanical Gardens and naturally reduced indigo which will turn into three colors: yellow, green and blue. Kids will fold cotton into shapes to make prints on provided bandanas to take home to discover the ways that plants make unexpected colors.
Participants Will:
• Build an indigo vat using mashed date fruits
• Learn how pomegranates begin as edible pink fruit and end up as yellow dye.
• Learn simple folding techniques using clothespins, rubber-bands, and string to make fun prints
and patterns on fabric.
• Take home two bandanas
